Since VMWare released their Server software for free, I've been playing around with it and intend to consolidate my existing servers onto a single server running several virtual machines.
One particularly interesting feature is that VMWare hosts an Virtual Appliances Directory --- a directory of pre-packaged virtual machines.
I was very tempted to install one of these as it saves a lot of time downloading and configuring an OS install, but I decided against it due to security concerns. After all, it would be easy to upload a trojaned virtual machine onto the directory and I have no idea what security checks (if any) are made.
It would be nice if OS distributions would offer a signed virtual machine image as a distribution method.
